The One Thing All Organizations Can Learn From The Snapchat Data Breach

Nov 02, 2014

Snapchat recently caught a data breach that exposed the private photos and videos stored on a third-party website of 200,000 users. This follows a seemingly endless stream of security breaches by major banks, financial institutions and national retailers that are eroding their clients’ trust in safeguarding personal information, privacy and transactions.

In response to the Snapchat security breach, Peter Theil, a renown technology investor, slammed companies in an interview with VentureBeat for not doing more to protect their firewalls and their customers:

“Every time you write an email, it is in the public domain. There are all these ways where security is not as good as people believe,” Thiel said.

The bottom line – you have to ensure both members of your company and your customers that their data is secure.

So how do you do this?

Compliance is your first step. Being compliant with security standards such as HIPAA and PCI DSS help to ensure your organization is on the right track. But you need more than just compliance – you need a system that guarantees you both security and reliability, while also being flexible so you can scale your communications as you grow.

In business-critical enterprise environments, fax has been filling this major need for secure data transport for decades. Industries such as healthcare and finance are constantly under pressure to keep their customer’s sensitive information secure, and fax has always been there to get the job done.

Fax is an old standard for keeping organizations compliant. But as technology advances, enterprise organizations are moving communications to the cloud. Security needs to be taken one step further and advance with the technology – the best solution is secure data transport in the cloud.

ETHERFAX is changing the way enterprise organizations think about data security. Leveraging the cloud, we provide a secure and scalable solution for all data transport. Our newly released ETHERFAX SENsolution allows customers to create their own private cloud, or connect to other organizations within the SEN ecosystem, providing guaranteed delivery and military-grade security within the ETHERFAX network.
