Using Methods Defined by the Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme, ETHERFAX Brings End-to-End Encryption to Subscribers through its APIs
ETHERFAX today announced the integration of end-to-end encryption to its hybrid cloud fax network using methods defined by the Elliptic Curve Integrated Encryption Scheme (ECIES) standard. This encryption standard defines means to secure and transfer information between two endpoints. Based on Elliptic Curve Cryptography, each transaction begins with the exchange of public keys, allowing “shared secrets” to be generated to seed the encryption process with unique keying material only known to the endpoints. Information is further protected through signing and authentication mechanisms in this encrypted communication, to assure the validity of the data in transit.
As security threats, data breaches and cyberattacks continue to rise, using well-defined encryption systems such as ECIES are vital to secure sensitive information. With this new delivery framework in place, high-resolution, digital content can be securely transferred between subscribers within the ETHERFAX cloud fax network, regardless of device type or application. Information is fully encrypted from the moment it leaves the sending device or application until it is accepted and validated by the receiving party. ETHERFAX is the only fax service provider to offer ECIES encryption to subscribers through its APIs.
“The days of modems hissing at one another, sending low-resolution, pixelated images are becoming a relic of the past. With this new capability, ETHERFAX is delivering the next generation of secure document delivery. Now, sending a 50-page, 600dpi color document securely can take mere seconds instead of hours,” Robert Cichielo, CTO of ETHERFAX said. “Using the ETHERFAX ecosystem, the chasm between traditional telephone lines and the world of digital communication is closing quicker than ever.”
ETHERFAX redefines cloud fax communications with its patented Secure Exchange Network (SEN), leveraging military-grade encryption and hybrid cloud technology to provide 100 percent secure communications within healthcare, finance, legal and enterprise organizations. ETHERFAX SEN is the world’s largest HIPAA compliant fax network, with a total of six million connected endpoints supporting every major fax server, application and fax-enabled device.
