Miles for Melanoma: A Mother’s Fight for Melanoma Research and Awareness
Mike and Patty Pophal’s journey with Miles for Melanoma began after their daughter, Grace, was diagnosed with Stage 4 melanoma during her senior year at Ohio State, leading to her passing in 2023. In response, Patty became a passionate advocate for melanoma awareness and research, significantly growing the Cleveland Miles for Melanoma 5K event, which now raises over $150,000 annually for the Melanoma Research Foundation (MRF). Her efforts include establishing a $1,000,000 grant for pediatric melanoma research and advocating for government funding for treatments. ETHERFAX supports the Pophals’ mission, with Chief Security Officer Emil Sturniolo participating in the event. Together, they aim to honor Grace’s legacy while raising awareness and funding for crucial research to prevent future losses to melanoma.
