Marlboro, NJ (May 13, 2015) – ETHERFAX, LLC, today announced support for the National Provider Identifier Standard (NPI), allowing for direct communication and secure document exchange between physicians and providers. Integrating NPI with the ETHERFAX Secure Exchange Network (SEN), healthcare professionals can send and receive unstructured data while complying with HIPAA and other industry standards.
Now, fax servers, applications and ETHERFAX Analog-to-ETHERFAX (A2E)devices can use NPI numbers similar to the way they would send a fax. The ETHERFAX network ensures guaranteed delivery, end-to-end encryption and instant delivery for all communications.
Unlike any other services, the ETHERFAX Application Program Interface (API) offers the ability to transmit certain Protected Health Information (PHI) pertaining to unstructured data transmitted in succession. On the receiving side, this means less overall data has to be received. With over two million plus destinations in healthcare alone, the ETHERFAX ecosystem continues to grow rapidly.
“As healthcare professionals will now be able to directly address the NPI, it will ensure the information gets to the correct physician or facility in accordance with the federal Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA),” explained Robert Cichielo, CTO of ETHERFAX. “It will further help to mitigate compliance concerns for healthcare organizations.”
“The SEN ecosystem allows for all types of secure communications outside of fax,” said Paul Banco, CEO of ETHERFAX. “We are committed to creating the world’s largest and most secure ecosystem in the healthcare industry.”
“Integrating NPI offers another capability within the ETHERFAX network, yet the functionality does not require any customization or training on the fax server, applications or endpoint devices,” Added Banco, “The connections to each other are already in place and there is nothing new to learn. No certificates to manage and no firewall ports to open; yet security remains the utmost priority, providing the best of all worlds.”
